Brand evolution and system development for a brand identity defined by tension.
Cash App exists between order and chaos, utility and expression, financial products and cultural activations. This work creates a design system that operates within those spaces: building a framework that can hold oppositions without collapsing them into each other.
Iterative changes across foundational elements gradually expanded the brand’s rigor. The introduction of Cash Sans became a backbone, bridging product and brand into a single voice, while refinements to color doubled down on the power of existing equity.
The ambition wasn’t to define a final state, but to create conditions for the brand to keep evolving. A system that could adapt without straying too far from its core.
This thinking is captured on design.cash.app, a Webby Award–winning site that acts less like a rulebook and more like a showcase of what is possible. It holds the logic of the system while leaving space for interpretation, keeping the brand always forward-looking.
